Dates: Nairobi, Kenya: November 11-15, 2019 Course Tuition fees: $ 3,000 Who can apply: This course is designed for government officials, private sector professionals and civil society officials involved in the negotiation and management of oil and gas contracts. Course Description: Africa possesses a variety of minerals and fossil fuels, but knowledge about the precise quantities of its resources remains largely uncertain, particularly with the recent discovery of oil reserves. Participants will also get an understanding of essentials in oil and gas contract drafting, resource valuation methods, national gas sales and dispute mechanisms in international oil and gas transactions. Course Outcome: By the end of the program, participants will be able to effectively negotiate oil and gas contracts in national and cross-border transactions with a holistic understanding of the social, economic, environmental and political implications of the contractual terms. COURSE ADVISOR
Dean David N. Smith Dean David N. Smith has had an illustrious career in legal education, serving as the first Dean of Singapore Management University’s (SMU) School of Law and former Vice-Dean of Harvard Law School for 15 years. Professor Smith is currently a Professor of Law at SMU and specializes in transnational corporations and foreign investment as well as comparative legal systems. He was instrumental in expanding the Harvard Law School’s international programs and served on the faculty board of the Harvard Institute for International Development, for which he also served as a consultant for projects in a wide range of developing countries.
